Bho Sambho

Its been a realllllllly loooooooooooooooooong time ,almost gonna be 2 years since I wrote my last post. Shifting to India ,searching for the job,my daughter's school all kept me so busy.Now a lil bit relaxed , today I have decided to write the lyrics of the song Bho sambo by Swami Dayananda Saraswati in Revati ragam.

I was very much inspired by my violin master Kumar , when he played this song :) On hearing the song I was really moved to tears. So wanted to post the lyrics of the song .

Akhilandeswari ~ Dwijavanthi

I feel this Navarathri time is ideal for writing carnatic krithis , which is celebrating "Ambal" in many forms either as Parvathy,Saraswathy or Lakshmi. Its pricking my heart that , I am not able to keep "Golu - Ambalai Goluveetrirukka Seidhal" as I am busy packing things for our "Back 2 India" journey. I am just saying this as the reason cos , I am becoming too lazy to do my regular chores. Sometimes I feel really bad about this.

So lets keep all those things apart and let us come to the main subject. This song always takes me back to my 2nd grade days, as my mom sings this song as a lullaby to my brother who was born then. This is the only song I have heard in the ragam "Dwijavanthi". If somebody who reads this blog have heard any song in Dwijavanthi , please feel free to write it across.Now onto the song,

Karunai Deivame Karpagame!!

This time , I wanted to write the lyrics of a carnatic song and first comes the ragam " Sindhu Bhairavi".When it is the carnatic song, it is always my mom who introduces the songs to me. This is one of my mom's masterpiece. I sometimes gets tears , when she renders the charanam especially.

As this is the Navarathri Time, I wanted to add a Tamil song dedicated to the deity Karpagambal.

Now on to the details of the ragam :
Sindhu Bhairavi is the janyam of the 10th Melakartha Ragam Natakapriya.

As a small intro to melakartha and janya ragams, melakartha ragams/thai ragams has complete seven swarams of the octave in both Aarohanam /Avarohanam. That is why they are called as sampoorna ragams.

My Fav song - Isaiyil thodanguthamma

In the childhood, I used to take music as a simple thing.What is so special in that, does it really give fresh ideas, peace etc. But later on, when I entered my teenage I have started hearing more songs and tried to interpret the raagas dealt with the song and how magically the music prodigies use the raagas in the songs . Thanks Amma , for giving me the initial hints. Now I am being a full time mom, I thought I can also pass this on to my sweetie pie Manasa. Luckily , she also has the spark of music in her. So I have started teaching her the basics, though I am not that authoritative to teach.

Now lets come to the the song Isaiyil Thodanguthamma from Hey Ram.

IR not only the music maestro, but also a nice lyricist, the great example is this song .Wow, I could hear the song zillion times in a row. What a beautiful composition in the Raaga "Hamsanadham" (carnatic) / Vivahapriya/SarangaTharangini.

Only IR is the person ,used Hamsanadham in his compositions. Few of his are "Thendral vandhu Ennai Thodum" from Thendrale ennai thodu , the very popular " Sorgame Endralum" from Ooru vittu ooru vandhu , "Oom Namaha" from the infamous Geetanjali .
